Like the joy of the sea coming home to shore,
May the relief of laughter rinse through your soul.
As the wind loves to call things to dance,
May your gravity be lightened by grace.
Like the dignity of moonlight restoring the earth,
May your thoughts incline with reverence and respect.
As water takes whatever shape it is in,
So free may you be about who you become.
As silence smiles on the other side of what’s said,
May your sense of irony bring perspective.
As time remains free of all that it frames,
May your mind stay clear of all it names.
May your prayer of listening deepen enough
to hear in the depths the laughter of God.

To Bless the Space Between Us: A Book of Blessings
I love this blessing in particular. It’s a wonderful book. I was so sad when he passed away. He had such a beautiful heart…
Isn’t it exquisite, Lady Calen? That very first line just grabs hold of me. The sea, coming home to shore. You can take every line and breathe it in, and it’ll hold you in repose for the whole day!
I guess I missed this way back when! I think the lines that intrigue me from this blessing are:
As time remains free of all that it frames,
May your mind stay clear of all it names.
I’m not quite sure I’ve figured out what that means…
That’s a good point. I’m not sure either! I’m guessing it means that whatever negative emotion it brings up by name, like doubt, fear, or shame, evacuate the premises of your mind. That was an elaborate guess, but it might be right! ๐
sweet n refreshing
Thanks, dear in! I love this one, too. If I could ever manage to do yoga or meditation (can’t still my mind! Go figure.) this would be a perfect poem to focus on. ๐
Shared this today, Ruth!
Oh, this is a good one, in. Wish I’d written it – this is such a cleansing-breath kind of prayer-poem. Thanks for sharing!
