Jersey Town Names

Standard

Here in central Jersey, our towns have interesting names. There are many derived from Native American words:

Allamuchie
Hohokus
Mahalala
Moonachie
Shabakunk
Succasunna

Some names are rather upbeat:

Comical Corner
Good Luck Point
Harmony
Success
Sunnyside

Some are somewhat negative:

Coffins Corner
Crow Foot
Downer
Poverty Beach
Rotten Pond
Savage pond

Some sound so sweet, it’s almost too much:

Angelsea
Apple Pie Hill
Good Intent
Loveladies
Nummytown
Princessville
Sugar Loaf

Boy, would I love to live in Princessville! I can’t remember which state it was in as the sis and I were going on a road trip, but my favorite sign was “Butte Creek”. Haha!

During a road trip, my favorite was a sign that said: Butte Creek. It made me giggle and think of butt crack. XoD
